St. Louis Extended Family Session

I had so much fun photographing the Alfermann’s St. Louis extended family session.

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing the Alfermann family, and it was a beautiful evening at Forest Park filled with delightful chaos that only a large family can bring.

One of the highlights of the session was the presence of so many little kids – cousins, to be exact. My own family looks really similar as there has been an EXPLOSION of kids in a short time! There’s something incredibly heartwarming about watching cousins play. Their energy and excitement are infectious, and they bring such a fun dynamic to the photoshoot.

Grandparents, parents, siblings, and cousins – everyone came together for the St. Louis extended family session to create photos that will be cherished for years to come. We began with some traditional posed shots, ensuring we captured everyone looking their best. But it was the fun “games” we played with the kids that I love. Cue the game for the kids to run fast around grandma and grandpa!

Photographing large families can be challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding when you can line up all of the logistics!

If I could give any advice for your St. Louis extended family session, I would say:

Go with the Flow – With many little kids, it’s important to go with the flow. Some of the best photos come from the unexpected moments. And ultimately trust me that I will get those smiles. Kids are smart and can feel the pressure, so keep it FUN!

Coordinate Outfits: The Alfermanns did a great job of coordinating their outfits without being too matchy-matchy. This helped create a cohesive look while allowing each individual’s personality to shine through.

Have Fun: Most importantly, make sure everyone is having a good time. A relaxed and happy family makes for the best photos.
